School Life in our Reception Cohort:

In Reception, we aim to promote the unique child by following the children’s interests within periods of high-quality play and sustained thinking.

We aim to provide a motivating and enriching school experience which encourages our children to be independent, inquisitive and develop a lifelong love of learning. Our holistic curriculum maximises cross-curricular links and builds strong foundations for the future of our learners, enabling them to succeed in an atmosphere of trust and feeling valued.

Outdoor learning is also encouraged here at Brandhall Primary; our reception playground, completed in the summer of 2022, aims to promote curiosity and make use of the seven areas of development. The climbing frame, race track, and learning trail have been a huge hit with the children! Our school grounds also offer a vast array of opportunities for outdoor learning, including a forest area where children participate in forest sessions and an outdoor classroom that enhances their learning experiences.

When children start in our reception cohort, and with the permission of parents, they will be introduced to our school dog, Lolley, who actively participates in reading sessions with the children and visits the reception library.

In Reception, our values of Ambition, Belonging, Compassion, Courage, Honesty, and Respect are deeply embedded in classroom activities. Classes work diligently to achieve their 'pebbles' throughout the school year. Once the children have collected their pebbles, they eagerly anticipate their chosen reward. So far, a pyjama party and teddy bear's picnic have been the favoured choices.

We are delighted that you have chosen to start your child's learning journey here at Brandhall Primary School and we look forward to welcoming you to our Brandhall family.

Our EYFS administrator, Leah, will be in touch with summer induction plans, prior to your child joining us in September and we hope this will aid in a positive and happy transition for your child.

**Please note, all children in Reception-Y2 receive universal free school meals. If you believe you are eligible for free school meals on income-based means, you may also be eligible to receive supermarket vouchers during school holidays. In order to receive these, you must fill out an application form on the link above through Sandwell Council.

How to apply for a reception place:

Children join reception the September following their 4th birthday. Applications open throughout the autumn term and Open Days will be advertised for parents and children to come and take a look around school.
